I am writing to bring to your attention a matter that occurred during the Silver BELLS program at the Tennessee School for the Blind, one that has caused me considerable concern regarding the safety and privacy of students’ living quarters.

I was assigned to Room 17, Cottage 2, with a roommate named Dorcus Conde. On Monday, March 9, Dorcus returned from lunch to discover our door open, even though I had not been in the room all day. The same thing happened over the following two days. On Wednesday, March 11—which also was the day Dorcus departed the campus—we again found the door ajar. Thursday after lunch, once more, our door was open. Upon investigation, I learned that other nearby rooms had experienced similar intrusions.

It’s important to note that, despite our rooms being accessed, neither of us found any items missing or displaced. However, on Friday, Cheryl Zuckerman informed us that during this time, she had entered several rooms and placed garbage bags in them. This revelation has only increased my discomfort, and I feel my privacy was compromised.

Given these events, I respectfully request that you launch an official inquiry into this matter. Furthermore, I ask that you convene a meeting involving Deborah Carter, Roxie Chamberlin, and myself to discuss this situation in person. Throughout my many stays on the TSB campus—for Silver BELLS, alumni events, and leadership seminars—nothing like this has ever occurred. I believe this issue merits your immediate attention to safeguard the trust and well-being of all participants.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response and a resolution.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]"

On Monday, March 9, after lunch, Dorcus returned to discover our door open—even though I had been away all day. The same thing happened again on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Dorcus departed the campus on Wednesday, March 11, but the pattern continued. On Thursday after lunch, once more, our door was open. Upon speaking with others, I learned that additional rooms in our cottage, and possibly throughout the campus, had experienced similar intrusions.

I want to emphasize that neither Dorcus nor I found anything missing or disturbed. However, on Friday, Cheryl Zuckerman informed us that during this time, she had entered residents’ rooms and placed garbage bags in them. This deeply concerns me.

I believe there is no way to determine whether similar incidents occurred in Cottage 1, because the doors in that cottage are designed to close automatically—making unauthorized entry less noticeable. Given my previous stays on the TSB campus during Silver BELLS, alumni gatherings, and leadership seminars, nothing like this has ever happened.

As affiliate president, I respectfully request that you open an official inquiry into this matter, and that you arrange a meeting among Deborah Carter, Roxie Chamberlin, and myself to further discuss this. I feel my privacy has been breached and hope we can address this with urgency and clarity.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]"
